life fitness gym equipment nike ipodJust the other day I came across this article saying the Life Fitness gym equipment would become compatible with Nike iPod. I thought that was really interesting. I used the Nike iPod when I used to go running. And I loved the fact that I could simply upload the data of my workout to nikeplus.com.

Here are the most important facts mentioned in the article:

“Life Fitness today announced plans to deliver the Nike iPod experience on all of its iPod-compatible Elevation Series treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers and Lifecycle Exercise Bikes.”

Ok, so apparently it’s not available on all the Life Fitness gym equipment. Only the Elevation Series. This is really the top of the line range, so hopefully LF will incorporate the same feature in their lower range models as well.

“When gym users connect their iPod nano to their computer, their workout data is sent to nikeplus.com through iTunes. This workout data is converted to “CardioMiles,” so that users of cardio equipment can easily set goals and participate in challenges with runners and with users of other cardio equipment.”

I find that the challenges you can have with other users are really helpful in staying on track. Especially when you’re working out by yourself and don’t have a friend around to “compete” with and motivate you.

The real question you should ask yourself though is whether this gimmick is worth the money. With prices of over $9000, it will be out most people’s reach. Click here for affordable alternative Life Fitness gym equipment (so far without the Nike iPod feature).
